Tuesday, January 13, 2009 VOL. CCLIII NO.10 – avVenta lands $20 million investment from TZP Group. avVenta
Worldwide, a company used by several Madison Avenue agencies to outsource digital–production
work to Costa Rica, plans to announce Tuesday that the New York private–equity firm
has become an investor.
Founded in 2005, avVenta works with ad agencies and
marketers including Digitas, Ogilvy and Citigroup to complete behind–the–scenes
production of Web ads at rates significantly lower than what agencies pay for similar
work in the U.S. The company, which is profitable and generated $19 million in revenue
last year, has about 500 employees. It plans to use the investment to open client–focused
offices in the U.S., build another production center in Costa Rica, expand to the
European market and make acquisitions.
TZP says it thinks its avVenta investment makes sense today, both in view of the
bad economy and with the broader shift of ad dollars toward digital media. "All
companies are looking to save money and to do that with the highest–quality service
they can get. avVenta provides both of those very,
very well," says Dan Galpern, senior principal at TZP.
Sam Katz, managing partner of TZP, will become chairman of avVenta's
board. Mr. Galpern will become a director.
